Spicy Build Update
I don’t know about you, but I enjoy some spice in my life. I like hot sauce, and spicy seasonings on majority of my food. It’s fair to say, if there is a way to spice something up I’m going to do it. Whether it’s my cars, my home office, my attire and now my guns; if there is a way to customize and spice it up, you better believe its going to happen. So about a month ago I finished (or at least I thought I was finished) a new pistol build (Check out my Youtube Channel for more details). The finishing touches were a new slide from Brownells and ported barrel from Tradecraft Armament.
Soon after the build was finished, I went to the range and found 2 flaws with the gun. The first flaw was a performance issue where the slide was not fully cycling to allow the round to eject causing the next round to not load. I did some troubleshooting at the range and replaced nearly every single part on the slide (except the barrel) and was not able to correct the issue. After further research and review of video footage from the range, I found that the root cause for the failure to eject was the barrel itself. The barrel was ported for a different slide I once owned but it seems that the porting was not centered for the new Brownells slide and was preventing a full cycle to occur due to inconsistent porting. I have since acquired a new barrel from Brownells and had the barrel ported specifically for the Brownells slide. So flaw #1 has been resolved.
The second flaw was not performance related, but rather cosmetic. While the gun was fully built it just didn’t feel like it was truly mine. It was missing some spice. So I connected with my Squad Drills buddy, Dalton aka @triggered.dad. Dalton has a home cerakote business in Florida and his work is of amazing quality. We chatted about the build and some ideas I had for custom paint job he would be doing. After some back and forth of a variety of directions we landed on Jango Fett as the inspiration for the overall theme. I am a big fan of Star Wars and Boba Fett is the theme for my EDC Glock 48 so naturally after giving it some thought, Jango Fett was a natural choice. So I sent all the parts to Dalton and he began to do his magic. After a few short weeks my newly painted build was in my hands and I was instantly blown away by the craftsmanship. The photos below do not do the level of quality justice.
Dalton painted it in a battleworn style with accents of blue and gold as a nod to the pieces of armor that Jango and Boba Fett have in the Star Wars movies. He then stepped up his game when he matched the various pins and smaller pieces for the gun to the gold and blue accents on the gun slide and frame. The amount of detail he put into this paint job is incredible. I’m happy to say with the new barrel and custom cerakote job this Brownells build is truly made more me and is a custom 1 of 1. If you are interested in getting something custom painted, be sure to give Dalton your business. His quality work is matched with his humble and prideful personality.
